AC Black Flag Resynced Story & Characters Guide

AC Black Flag Resynced story β€” Edward Kenway and Blackbeard

Edward Kenway's journey through the Golden Age of Piracy β€” the complete story, all major characters, and what new narrative content Resynced adds.

Who Is Edward Kenway?

Edward isn't your typical Assassin. He starts as a selfish, reckless pirate who stumbles into the Assassin-Templar conflict by accident. He's not here to save the world β€” he's here to get rich.

His arc from fortune-hunting privateer to reluctant hero is widely considered one of the best character journeys in the Assassin's Creed series. Resynced preserves this core while adding new context.

New Story Content in Resynced

"A World Without Gold" β€” 8 New Missions

The biggest narrative addition. Unlocks at the start of the final sequence (look for it in the Hideout). Focused on Blackbeard's legacy β€” what he built, what he lost, and what he left behind. You'll need to play to discover how this tale of the legendary pirate concludes.

Stede Bonnet's Epilogue

A fitting send-off for the gentleman pirate. Starting in Sequence 9, you receive a letter from Stede asking Edward to meet on Mystery Island. There you'll uncover what happened to this unlikely pirate icon.

Blackbeard's Treasure Quest

Starting in Sequence 8, Blackbeard sends Edward on a treasure hunt. It's not just about gold β€” it's about cementing Blackbeard's reputation as a builder of a free society. Expect a narrative twist.

Officer Questlines

Each of the three new officers has a fully voiced questline revealing their backstory:

  • Lucy Baldwin: Legendary shipwright imprisoned on a Man-o-War. Edward must sneak aboard at Salt Key Bank.
  • The Padre: Holy man with a violent past, serving a small village at Punta del Caracol. Edward must convince him to return to piracy.
  • Deadman Smith: Master gunner recruited during the "A World Without Gold" questline.

You don't need to finish their full questlines to recruit them β€” they join partway through.

Animus Rifts β€” 4 Optional Stories

Four rifts tied to key characters (Edward, Blackbeard, James Kidd). Seek them all out for a special conclusion that connects past and present.

Modern-Day Changes

The modern-day sections have been reworked. Instead of pulling you into unrelated corporate settings, they now focus on Edward's internal struggles β€” connecting his memories to the Animus in a way that keeps the narrative grounded in his journey.

They're still in the game, but the framing has shifted to feel more relevant and less disruptive.

The Core Story (Original Arc Preserved)

The 13-sequence structure is maintained, but every mission has been rebuilt:

  1. Sequences 1-2: Shipwreck, Havana, joining the Assassins
  2. Sequence 3: Rope Dart unlocked, Templar targets emerge
  3. Sequence 4: Great Inagua Hideout, Kenway's Fleet, the Jackdaw
  4. Sequences 5-7: Nassau republic, pirate alliances, naval expansion
  5. Sequence 8: Blackbeard's treasure quest (new!)
  6. Sequence 9: Stede Bonnet epilogue (new!), major story turns
  7. Sequences 10-12: Endgame confrontations, betrayals
  8. Sequence 13: "A World Without Gold" endgame chapter (new!)

Lore Connections

Resynced ties into the broader AC universe through:

  • Animus Keys on Playas containing modern-day lore
  • Vault entries at special locations
  • Expanded assassination target backstories (optional objectives reveal more)
  • The 4 Animus Rifts connecting past and present narratives
