What's NOT Included in AC Black Flag Resynced โ Multiplayer, DLC, and Cut Content
What features from the original AC Black Flag are missing in Resynced: multiplayer, Freedom Cry DLC, companion app, and other removed content.
What's NOT Included in AC Black Flag Resynced โ Multiplayer, DLC, and Cut Content
Not every feature from the 2013 original made the voyage to Resynced. Some cuts are straightforward โ the multiplayer servers aren't coming back โ while others are more nuanced redesigns. If you're wondering whether your favorite piece of Black Flag survived the remake, we've got the definitive list.
What's Been Removed
| Feature | Status | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| Multiplayer mode | Removed | Resynced is single-player only |
| Freedom Cry DLC | Not included | Adewale's story is not part of the remake |
| All original DLC packs | Not included | No Aveline missions, no Crusader & Florentine pack, no Death Vessel pack |
| Companion app | Removed | Kenway's Fleet now fully integrated in-game |
| Uplay / Ubisoft Connect rewards | Reworked | Legacy rewards folded into in-game progression |
Multiplayer
There is no multiplayer in Resynced โ no Wolfpack, no Artifact Assault, no Wanted mode. Ubisoft's stated goal was "a pure story-driven adventure fully focused on Edward's adventures in the Caribbean," and the competitive suite didn't fit that vision. If you have fond memories of stalking friends through Havana's rooftops, we understand the disappointment โ but the single-player campaign is richer for the undivided attention.
Freedom Cry & Other DLC
Freedom Cry, the standout 4-hour standalone starring Adewale, is not included โ nor are any of the original Black Flag DLC packs. That means no Aveline missions, no additional multiplayer characters, and no cosmetic packs. Ubisoft has not announced plans for post-launch story DLC, so for now, what ships on July 9 is the complete package.
Companion App
The old mobile companion app that let you manage Kenway's Fleet from your phone is gone. In its place, fleet management is fully integrated into the in-game pause menu โ no second screen required. You can send captured ships on trade routes, collect rewards, and upgrade your fleet without ever putting down the controller. We actually prefer this approach; it keeps you immersed in the world instead of glancing at a phone.
What's Been Reworked (Not Removed)
Some systems from the original weren't cut โ they were redesigned. Here's what changed and why.
| System | Original | Resynced |
|---|---|---|
| Tailing / eavesdropping | Instant desync on detection | Detection triggers a chase or combat scenario โ mission continues |
| Hidden Blade in combat | Usable as a primary weapon | Stealth-only; open combat uses swords, pistols, and tools |
| Modern-day sections | Abstergo offices, first-person | Reworked to focus on Edward's internal struggles; shorter, third-person |
| Ship boarding | Repetitive objectives | Context-sensitive objectives per ship type; more variety |
Tailing Missions
Let's address the elephant on the deck. The original Black Flag's tailing and eavesdropping missions were infamous โ one wrong step and you'd desync, reload, and redo the entire sequence. In Resynced, those missions still exist (they're part of the story, after all), but failing detection no longer triggers a desync. Instead, the target reacts โ they run, or guards engage you โ and the mission adapts. You can recover, chase them down, or fight your way out. It transforms the most frustrating part of the original into a tension mechanic that actually works.
Hidden Blade
The Hidden Blade is now a stealth-only tool. In the original, you could parry and counter-kill with it in open combat, which undercut the fantasy of a hidden weapon. Resynced commits to the blade's stealth identity โ if you're seen, you draw steel. This makes stealth encounters feel more deliberate and open combat more varied, since you're cycling through swords, pistols, smoke bombs, and rope darts instead of leaning on one overpowered counter button.
Modern-Day
The present-day framing is still there, but it's been reworked to center on Edward's internal struggles rather than a nameless Abstergo employee wandering an office. The sections are shorter, presented in third-person, and tie more directly to Edward's arc. If you bounced off the original's modern-day segments, these are less intrusive and more thematically relevant.
What IS Still Here
For every cut, there's plenty that survived โ and in many cases, got better.
